The Movie Acrimony which was written and directed by the mastermind himself Tyler Perry which he has received alot of backlash because some people do not just buy his style of story telling well i am not part of that lot,i am a fan of his work and how he tells his story and no matter how tragic Acrimony may seem,i love the storyline.
I am not here to summarize the movie so you can just go watch if you haven’t seen it already and i bet you the first question you will be asked immediately you raise your head up from the screen is
“who do you think was at fault ?” .
The movie to me is centered around three people The wife Melinda (Taraji p. Henson), the husband Robert (Lyriq bent) and Diana (Crystle Stewart) .
You see as much as love influenced every thing our lead character,Melinda, did in the early stage of her life,we all know there is only but a thin line between love and hate as she showed us well enough in the movie. She gave him her love “unconditionally”,her trust, her support, her inheritance and 18 years of her life, she loved him.
On the other hand is Robert,he met someone at his early age who loved him for just being him and supported his dream (you know how much we all crave for that person to walk into our lives) we didn’t really feel the love from his end but what we know for sure is he learnt to love her,he wasn’t about to let that goldmynewalk away so he wifed her. One thing that this character thought us is
- Never stop chasing your dream
- When you find someone who believes in your dream never let them go (he sure did that)
- A man with nothing in his pocket has nothing to lose.
What i admire in Tyler Perry’s Acrimony is as much as its a Melinda story he found a way for us to see a little of the Robert’s character,his struggle from boy to man,his dreams and ambitions,his faithfulness to his wife(believe me we all love in different ways) and let’s not forget he is good in bed,atleast that was one reason why our lead character couldn’t let go .
The truth is they both had their flaws,Melinda with her temper,anger and letting her siblings in on her marriage life.Robert with his dreams that took all his time,his laziness to man up and take charge of his family (i mean you can’t just marry a woman just because you need someone to take care of you and your dreams) and lets not forget,lord that man is manipulative.
The main player in all these that people aren’t really taking a good look at her character is Diana,
“the cool,calm,collected 18 years side-chick”. How can you still be stuck on someone for 18YEARS, well she came back stronger,she knew well enough about Melinda’s temper,Robert’s dream/desires and she had the key to that. Don’t tell me you believed the whole “i forgot my purse” drama and how she played the safe heaven to him.
Anyways she is the biggest winner here,even if the character Robert dies she will still be the winning party here because he wifed her and thats all that matters.
If you are still wondering who i blame in all these,well i am still wondering myself because i still can’t seem to blame one party.
