The Special Assistant to the Commissioner for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs in Niger State, Mallam Salisu Usman, was reportedly brutally assaulted by a phone snatcher.

A statement released through the commissioner’s office on Facebook, on New Year’s Day stated that the incident occurred at approximately 8:25 pm, resulting in critical injuries to Salisu, with blood streaming from a severe wound on his hand.

The statement said the assailant, seeking to snatch the victim’s phone, escalated the situation by wielding a dangerous weapon, nearly severing Usman’s hand in the process.

Salisu was said to have managed to escape from the attacker, despite the life-threatening assault, seeking help from nearby persons who promptly rushed him to IBB Specialist Hospitals after being rejected by three hospitals.

“Upon learning about the attack, the Commissioner for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, Umar Ahmed Rebe, quickly rushed to the hospital.

“Accompanied by his wife, Hajiya Hauwa’u Ibrahim Madako, Commissioner Rebe expressed deep concern, labelling the incident as both devastating and worrisome.” The statement read in part.

Commissioner Rebe pledged to cover all medical expenses for Usman’s treatment during his hospital stay and extended heartfelt wishes for his swift and complete recovery.
