Some aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who contested the primaries for the Akoko North-East/North-West federal constituency bye-election election in Ondo State have kicked against the outcome of the exercise.
Ifeoluwa Ehindero emerged as the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election to fill the vacant seat in the federal constituency.
Ehindero polled 105 votes at the primary held at Victory College in Ikare-Akoko, where he defeated eight other aspirants to secure the APC ticket.
With the emergence of Ehindero, he will be flying the flag of the APC during the February 3 by-election.
The federal constituency seat became vacant following the appointment of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as the Minister of Interior by President Bola Tinubu.
However, the conduct of the primary was met with opposition from eight of the nine aspirants who participated in the election, following allegations of irregularities and a lack of transparency in the process.
The aggrieved aspirants include Olugbenga Araoyinbo, Haruna Adesina, Muyiwa Olusa, Olanrewaju Kazeem, and Bimbo Makinde.
According to Araoyinbo, the aspirants were not allowed access to the delegate list before the primary.
“With the conduct of the primary, we will lose the election. One single person wrote the list of delegates from the 23 political wards.
“There was no level playing field. We have not seen the list as we speak.
This is a charade. This is not acceptable.”
