Actress Ethel Ekpe passes away from cancer

Veteran Nigerian actress Ethel Aderemi, formerly known as Ethel Ekpe, has passed away.

She succumbed to cancer on Wednesday in Lagos.

The Director General of the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, took to Facebook to announce her demise on Wednesday night.

He wrote,

“I have been reliably informed that Ethel Ekpe, the screen beauty that delighted fans with her inimitable interpretation of the role of Segi in the defunct sitcom on Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, by Ken Saro Wiwa titled ‘Basi and Company’ has passed on.

“The actress and later day Pastor will be sorely missed. My family will particularly miss her because we named my second daughter Ethel, after her. Good night good woman.”

In other news, Popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage fondly referred to as the Queen of Afrobeat has taken to her Instagram page to mark her late father’s posthumous birthday.

Sharing via her Instagram story, she wished her daddy a happy birthday and prayed that he continued to rest in peace.

The mother of one had announced the passing of her father on July 19, 2021, claiming that he had a peaceful transition despite his strenuous past.

On that day she wrote;

“Early hours of this morning, you made a peaceful transition. You fought till the very end, you really fought Daddy. It’s been rough for you these past couple years but you are resting now. This is tough on me, I’m so numb, so weak. Rest In Perfect Peace my King. I love you daddy.”

To commemorate her late father on his posthumous birthday, she shared a picture of him and her and attached a caption that read;

“Happy birthday daddy. Continue to rest in perfect peace❤️????️” Read here
