Nigerian striker, Cyriel Dessers has expressed his excitement at signing for KRC Genk from Dutch side Heracles Almelo, describing the club as a childhood dream after supporting the club in his days as a child.

The Belgian side completed the signing of Dessers from the Dutch side for a fee around €6 million after a season at the modest Dutch side where he finished as one of the top scorers in the league before it was halted due to the covid19 pandemic.

The 25 year old scsored 15 goals in 25 games to finish atop of the Eredivisie goalscorers’ chart. A form that also earned him a maiden call up to the senior national team of Nigeria for the AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone which was later called off.

Born in Belgium to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother but he chose to play for Nigeria and a bid to maintain his spot in the team he shunned a move to Celta Vigo and Italian Serie A side Parma according to one of his representatives who spoke with Owngoalnigeria.com.

” The idea is to get a team where he will get regular games and Genk is perfect. He want to stay in the frame of the senior national team of Nigeria hence options like Celta Vigo and Parma where he might not get game time were turned down. He supported Genk as a child . So he is living his dream”.
