Kevin Akpoguma is excited to make his debut for Nigeria against Algeria’s Desert Foxes as he looks forward to help the three-time African champions qualify for the 2022 African Cup of Nations.

The Hoffenheim defender came on as a second-half substitute in Super Eagles 1 – 0 defeat to African champions Algeria in Austria on Friday.

Akpoguma was impressive as he helped provide cover for the goalkeeper after he was introduced for Tyronne Ebuehi in the 65th minute of the encounter.

Speaking moments after the game, Akpoguma said he’s proud to make his debut for Nigeria and already looking forward to earning more caps for the Gernot Rohr tutored-side.

“I’m proud to be part of the Nigerian team, we are looking forward to winning the next game, of course, lost today and I think we played against one of the best teams in Africa, we tried our best to get a draw,” Akpoguma was quoted as saying to Nigerian journalist Oma Akatugba.

“As I said, it’s just a test game, the coach is looking at where we can improve and the most important thing is for us to qualify for the African cup of Nations.”
