The much anticipated MTV Africa Music Awards 2021 has been postponed.

Barely two weeks to the event which was scheduled to take place in Kampala, Uganda, organizers of the awards scheme have had to postpone it.

MTV Base in a statement explains the postponement is due to the “current health and safety challenges both on the continent and globally that significantly jeopardizes the ability of the campaign to continue to achieve its objectives.”

It continues “The MAMA Kampala 2021 is committed to reinforcing and inspiring the voices of the youth. The MAMA continues to celebrate and recognise African music, talent, culture and youth empowerment across the continent ensuring that we inspire cross border collaboration towards driving a positive and informed positioning for Africa.

Our purpose of developing and driving the music and entertainment industry across the continent to stimulate the economy through innovation and creativity while showcasing talent and taking African artists to the world remains a primary focus.”

Not too long ago, the organizers announced award-winning DJ, DJ Khaled as host of the event.

The MAMA Kampala 2021 is set to celebrate African talent across 20 award categories.

For the artist of the year, the nominees are Burna Boy, Calema, Diamond Platnumz, Master KG, Davido, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid.

For best international act, DJ Khaled is competing with The Weeknd, Da Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Drake and Beyoncé.
