The first start for Real Madrid for 20 year old Marvin Park in the 2-0 win over Getafe in the La Liga on Tuesday was celebrated by some section of football loving Nigerians.
Park becomes the first player of Nigerian descent to start a game for the Spanish giants and he didn’t look out of place with a performance that got many wondering if he is having his first start.
He was calm in possession, assured going forward and solid in duels despite playing in an unfamiliar position as a right wing back as opposed to his natural position as a winger on either flanks.
Born to a Nigerian father and a Korean mother in Spain. He eligible for the three countries mentioned above but for now the Spanish team where he is presently a youth international hold the ace to his international future.
However two years ago when he was asked about the chances of playing for Nigeria he was open about the idea but insist on taking one step at a time.
“ I have Nigerian roots which means I have the option of representing them but I am just 18 years old and getting into the set up at this level. So it’s one step at a time for me”, the forward whose real name is Marvin Olawale Akinlabi Park said in 2018.
