A member of the technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made a bold statement on the international future of Manchester United 17 year sensation Shola Shoretire.
Shoretire grabbed the headline when he made his debut for Manchester United in their 3-1 win over Newcastle United. Hence going into the record books as the second youngest player to do so for the club.
A star for the youth team of Manchester United, he was born in England to a Nigerian father and a British mother making him eligible to represent both nations at international levels.
So far he is yet to represent any of the aforementioned nations but it would have been Nigeria if the team made it to the U20 Nations Cup or probably the World Cup which was cancelled by FIFA.
“ I spoke with his parents and they gave me their words that he will play for Nigeria . He hasn’t represented England at any level so it was a straight forward decision”,he told Owngoalnigeria.com
“ He was pencilled down for the U20 team but unfortunately we didn’t scale through the WAFU qualifiers for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations. Even if we did the World Cup was later cancelled due to coronavirus.
“ That said I know how excited he was when he was told about representing Nigeria. No hassles over waiting for England . He wanted us badly but now we have to wait and see. He is now in the spotlight”, he concluded.
