Super Eagles won’t underrate Squirrels in AFCON Qualifier – Aina

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has declared that Nigeria won’t underrate Benin Republic when both side clash in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game on Saturday.

Aina snoted that the three-time African champions have learnt from their shocking results against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.

Intrestingly, the Super Eagles bottled a four-goal lead and allowed the minnows draw level in Benin City, before playing a goalless draw in Freetown last November.

Aina insists the two results against Sierra Leone were strange, but the team is determined to make up for the mistakes against the Squirrels on matchday.

“As strange as it sounds, I believe everyone’s moved on from that Sierra Leone game but the lessons learned stays with us,” he told BBC Sport Africa.

“We travel to Benin with all seriousness, we’ll go there and try to win the game before hosting Lesotho at home.”

Nigeria will seal qualifications for the tournament should they avoid defeat against Benin Republic.

The Eagles currently lead Group L log with eight points, one more than their hosts and five ahead of Sierra Leone.
