Suspected killers of raped UNILORIN student arrested by DSS

The Department of State Services has arrested eight suspects over the rape and murder of Blessing Olajide, a 300-level agricultural student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Olajide’s death had sparked protests by many civil society organizations across the country who demanded for justice. She was found with injuries all over her body at her Tanke residence, University road, Ilorin after allegedly being gagged and raped.

It was further learnt that the suspects are helping the service with the investigation. Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mumini Jimoh (SAN) has also confirmed that some suspects had been arrested over the issue and will be arraigned before Justice I.A. Jusuf on Wednesday June 30.

Sources who spoke with newsmen on the condition of anonymity on Monday said the DSS had arrested the perpetrators.

As of the time of filing this report, both the state spokesperson for the DSS, as well as the national public relations officer had yet to respond to the messaged sent to them to confirm the arrest.
