Linked heavily with a move away from the team after scoring 33 goals last season, the €25 million Genk wanted by Genk proved to be too much for teams who were keen on having the 27 year old in their squad.
The Nigerian appears to have gotten over the disappointment by accepting the offer of the team to extend his deal with a new pay package which makes him the highest earning player in the history of the club.
Sources privy to the deal revealed it’s worth in excess of €5 million a year in bonuses and salaries. Including special clauses like scoring a certain amount of goals and also finishing as top scorer.
His new deal puts him in the bracket of some of Nigeria’s highest earning player at the moment. He is still hoping to seal a move away in the next summer transfer window with four goals from the first league game of the season.
