The future of the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr is still unresolved five weeks to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Rohr has been told his services isn’t required anymore but he is yet to get an official notice of dismissal from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) three weeks after he was verbally told to hands off the team.
NFF tried to talk the coach into resigning but be refuse insisting on getting sacked which will see the football house in Nigeria pay him a handsome amount as severance package, something which a chieftain of the NFF says is the main issue at the moment.
” We know it’s five weeks to the AFCON but we are financially handicap to fire Rohr as coach even though we don’t have trust in him. Rohr also want the association to end but he wants to leave on his terms and you won’t fault him. As I speak to you we don’t have a solution in sight”, he said.
“Presently we are owing Rohr five months salaries and some bonuses. I believe for three or four matches. Then we will also pay him six months of the remaining 12 months of his contract. We can stagger the remaining six months but we need to pay him 11 months to see him quit”, he explained.
He said the situation could see them make a u-turn on the future of the coach ” In life anything can happen. There is a remote chance of Rohr leading the team to AFCON. Very slim I must say though. We wait still”.
