The five Nigerian players currently on the books of English Championship side Watford are facing contrasting situation at the club following the appointment of Slaven Bilic as the new coach of the team.
While William Troost Ekong has reclaimed his spot in the starting lineup and even scored a goal in the 4-0 derby win over Luton, Maduka Okoye has also not lost his spot as second choice goalkeeper to Austrian shot stopper Daniel Bachmann.
Joseph Hungbo another Nigerian at the club enjoyed lot of first team involvement before the appointment of Bilic, but he has since been returned back to the U21s. Same as Tom Dele-Bashiru who is working his way back to full fitness after an injury in pre season.
Samuel Kalu played two straight games as a substitute under Bilic, his first two appearances this season after being frozen out by the previous coach. He is however yet to stamped his feet in the team as he has been demoted to the U23s after making a cameo appearance against Luton.
All three players were part of Watford’s Under-21 side as they beat QPR B 4-2 last night at Hanwell Town’s Poswerday Stadium.
