The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have quickly played down suggestions that they are keen on hiring the present coach of Saudi Arabia Herve Renard for the senior national team of Nigeria.
Renard has been largely pointed at as the man to help the Super Eagles regain their place if pride in African football and with deal of present coach Jose Peseiro running out, there is every chance of the NFF looking not to renew his deal.
Peseiro has only handled the team in two competitive games and he picked up wins against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe winning 2-1 and 10-0 respectively. He has however failed to win in any of the friendly games against top teams in Africa, South America and recently Europe with the latest 0-4 thrashing against Portugal.
His current deal has less than six months to go and talks over an extension has been put on halt. Opening the possibility of the coach departing at the end of his deal early next year. Renard has been suggested as a potential target if his deal isn’t renewed.
” No, we are not looking at any coach. We have Peseiro and he has our backing. A lot of people are not comfortable with the results against the big teams we have played, but it’s a process and his renewal won’t be about those games only. There is still some time before his deal runs out”,a chieftain of the NFF told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
” You see the coach of Saudi Arabia that many are saying should be our target? He is not in our league. His present salary is around what we get in a year from the government. How can we afford him. There are coaches out there but the problem is the money isn’t what we can pay”,he concluded.
