Dutch Side Sanctions Exit Of Super Eagles Defender Wanted By Fulham

Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam have cleared the path for Nigeria international defender Calvin Bassey to leave before the end of the summer transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Bassey became the most expensive defensive signing ever made by the Dutch giants when he joined the team from Scottish side Rangers, after helping them reach the final of the Europa League.

He failed to make an impact at Ajax last season and it cost him his spot, making him the subject of criticism from the press and former players of the team in what was a very poor season for the Dutch side.

The situation led to talks about an exit, which saw Fulham make a bid in the region of €20m for him. While Bassey isn’t keen on leaving, he has been told that he won’t get regular run of games next season.

According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, the club have already indicated to interested teams their willingness to let go of the 24 year old, who has ten caps for the senior national team of Nigeria.
