Players of the senior national team of Nigeria have made it known to head coach of the team Jose Peseiro that the center back pairing of Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey isn’t working, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Peseiro has settled for the duo as his preferred options at center back but bar the game against Sao Tome and Principe they are yet to keep a clean sheet.
The coach who has decided to move on from vice captain William Troost-Ekong has been told to replace one of the duo with the second vice captain of the team in Kenneth Omeruo, who has been relegated to the role of third choice center back.
We exclusively gathered that the coach sent his assistant to sample the opinion of the players on the pair and majority of them spoke about the lack of leadership when they play together in front of Francis Uzoho, who is also battling confidence crisis.
They said the team need a commander at the back who will help in organizing and keeping every one on their toes. Presently none of Ajayi or Bassey can do that as they are both still finding their feet in the team.
