A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, has granted a 39-year-old banker, Mr Osazuwa Obarisiagbon, bail.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Ena Odjugo, granted the banker bail on Friday.
Obarisiagbon was arraigned before the court for allegedly defrauding a customer of the sum of N46.4 million.
As part of conditions to meet the bail requirements, the court said the accused should produce two sureties.
According to the court, one of the sureties must be a banker while the other a businessman with the sum of N15 million in like sum.
It added that the businessman must have a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.
The matter was adjourned for hearing till August 4 and 5, 2021.
Earlier at the commencement of court proceedings, the Chief Magistrate struck out the names of three other defendants on the matter with charge sheet Number: ME/77C/2021 following the submission made by the prosecuting counsel, SP Vincent Orawemen, Esq.
The suspect appeared on a six-count charge bordering on offences of conspiracy, stealing, forgery, falsification of documents, personating and fraud.
He however pleaded not guilty to all the counts.
Obarisiagbon, a staff of a new generation bank located at Effurun, near Warri, was accused of conspiracy and stealing the said sum of money belonging to Wellington Hotel Ltd, Effurun.
The prosecuting counsel, Orarumen, told the court that the suspect and others now at large committed the offence between December 2015 and November 30, 2016.
Orarumen said the offences were punishable under Sections 516, 390 (8)(b) and (9), 516, 467 (4)(u), 516 and 484 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 21, Vol. 1 Laws of Delta, Nigeria, 2006 respectively.
However, the defense counsel, Sanchez Agumor made an oral application for bail on behalf of his client which was consequently granted.
