Blues bid for Rice

Chelsea are set to launch a £40m move for Declan Rice because they believe West Ham are strapped for cash, reports The Sun of UK.

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan conceded that “limited funds” have led to him getting “more depressed” over the club’s lack of summer business.

“I cannot say for sure we are going to sign anybody. We haven’t got the money,” Sullivan told talkSPORT.

Chelsea, therefore, hope the Hammers will admit defeat in their battle to keep Rice, as the cash injection from selling him could be used to sign other players.

Lampard is said to be a big admirer of Rice and views his best position as being in front of the back four.
