The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has decried the fraudulent activities of cybercafés and tutorial centre operators who specialise in deceiving candidates, using the board’s insignia and name.

The exam board in a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Fabian Benjamin said criminal elements dupe students under the guise of registering them for the 2021/22 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) application.

”It is a criminal offence for one to use the exam bodys’ name and logo when one is not licensed by the Board to do so for any reason, ” Dr. Fabian warned.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, according to Dr Fabian revealed the latest trend by the criminal centres in Ilorin, Kwara State, while intimating security agents on the new trend.

Oloyede had on Friday, handed over some suspected criminal cybercafé and tutorial centre operators to security agents for investigation and prosecution.

He also warned that the exam board would come down hard on platforms using such antics to defraud candidates.

He alleged that such platforms are used as incubators for grooming examination offenders, who also use the logo and name of the board to perpetrate malpractice.

”Anybody not licensed by the board to register candidates and who goes ahead to print banners advertising the Board’s services would be arrested and prosecuted, Oloyede warned.

The Registrar also hinted that the exam board has concluded plans to embark on monitoring of centres alongside security agents to forestall the activities of such platforms ahead of the examination.
