Calvin Bassey’s Performance For Rangers In Europa League Puts Him In Frame For Super Eagles Call Up For AFCON Qualifiers

Rangers of Scotland left back Calvin Bassey could be called up to the senior national team of Nigeria next month after impressing for Rangers in the Europa League.

The 20 year old played the final 45 minutes of their 2-0 win away to Belgium side Standard Liege and put up a performance that left many impressed.

Some fans of the team even picked him
as their man of the match despite the fact that he was on the pitch for just 45 minutes as he showed remarkable composure playing as a left back.

Comfortable as a centre back of left full back. His desire to represent Nigeria at the U20 World Youth Championship made him contact coach of the team Paul Aigbogun and despite not getting selected he has maintained contacts with the coach.

Aigbogun was recently appointed the deputy technical director by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). A role which he will combine with the job of the Head Scout of the various national teams of Nigeria.

It is believe that Bassey will be his first recommendation to coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr owing to his exploits so far. Rohr on his part is keen on having another player in the position where he recently relegated Jamilu Collins to second choice behind Zaidu Sanusi.
