Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili is determined to make Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nwabili, 27, has attracted the attention of Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro after several impressive displays for the Chilli Boys this season.

In 12 league appearances this season, the goalkeeper has kept six clean sheets and conceded 10 goals.

Peseiro was at Chippa United’s training ground on Friday to speak with the former Enyimba shot-stopper.

The Portuguese will also watch Saturday’s DStv Premiership clash between Chippa United and Golden Arrows.

Expressing his desire to be on the plane to Cote d’Ivoire 2023, Nwabili told iDiski Times: “I wish to get a call-up but it’s not compulsory. It’s not by my performance because everyone is doing well in different clubs; other goalkeepers have been doing well in their clubs.

“If you are called up to your national team, kudos to you. I wish to represent my own country. I wish to wear my country’s jersey. I wish to wear it again. I went there before and I wish to wear it again in a nice tournament. That’s my wish.”

Nwabili has been capped once at the senior level by Nigeria.
