The 52nd Country Music Award ceremony has come and gone.

This year’s ceremony was hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. And one of those who shined so bright last night is Chris Stapleton, who had the most nominations, with five nods, and won the night’s first award for song of the year, “Broken Halos.”

Stapleton also won again for the song with the award for single of the year.

Accepting his award, he said the song was written for the “people who have gone long before their time and you know, I want to think about the people out in California right now and … dedicate [the award] to them.”
