An elderly woman who washes dishes at a restaurant in Chengdu, China, has gone viral after she was spotted being driven to work in a Bentley.
Chinese media reports that the woman’s daughter takes her to her workplace in a Bentley and picks her up on a daily basis.
A video shared on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo shows the woman exiting her Bentley while dressed in a work apron and rubber boots.
The clip went viral because Bentleys are considered luxurious vehicles owned by people in the upper echelons of society, so seeing a dishwashing lady riding in one elicited strong reactions online.
It was later revealed that the woman is actually wealthy and only took the job because she didn’t want to be idle.
“I feel bored and uncomfortable if I don’t wash dishes for 1 day,” the woman told a China Times journalist after she went viral.
Her employer also confirmed that she was not in financial need, despite the fact that her job entails dishwashing and cleaning the restaurant.
The woman’s family was reportedly not in support of her doing the job, but they had no choice when they saw how determined she was.
