EFCC releases 58 arrested OAU students

Some students of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, who were recently arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have been released

Their release followed the reported protest by the students of the institution, who stormed the office of the anti-graft agency in Ibadan, Oyo State.

thedabigal gathered that EFCC operatives had arrested the students, numbering over 70, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, during a raid on Tuesday.

The operation, it was also gathered, targeted two off-campus hostels, Fine Touch and Superb, in Oduduwa Estate, Ile-Ife around 2 a.m.

However, Abiola Awoyeye, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly, representing Ife Central State Constituency, said that 58 of the arrested students have regained their freedom.

He added that talks are ongoing for the release of the remaining 11.

“I can confirm that 58 of the 69 people that were arrested have been released, with talks ongoing for the remaining 11,” he wrote on X.

“I want to thank Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Attorney General, Barr Wole Bada, for their unwavering support.”
