Ekong Is Super Eagles Weak Link – Sierra Leone Coach Reveals

Coach of the national team of Sierra Leone says his team targeted Watford defender William Troost Ekong during their back to back AFCON qualifiers games against Nigeria.

John Kiester while analyzing his team’s impressive results against Nigeria which includes coming from a goal down to draw 4-4 in the first tie in Nigeria said they picked on the weak spot in the Nigerian team during the break.

Sierra Leone spectacularly clawed their way back to draw 4-4 with Nigeria from a position which looks like a likely massacre after just 31 minutes. “ It’s probably the greatest comeback in our football history”, the coach said.

“ Some will say it happened by accident but that’s not the truth. We were better technically and tactically. During the break with scores at 1-4, our plan was to pile pressure on Ekong and it happened. So it’s our strategy that worked out”.

Speaking on the reverse tie which ended 0-0, the coach credited the Nigerian players for playing with their hearts on their sleeves but said his team were unlucky not to win.

“ The Nigerian team played a lot different in Freetown. They were very very determined but that said we had chances that should have swing the game in our favour. We were unlucky not to have won”.
