The future of Nigeria international forward Victor Osimhen is one that will cause a lot of debate in when the summer transfer window opens with two years left to run on his deal with runaway Serie A leaders Napoli.
Osimhen has scored 19 goals this season making him the top scorer after 26 round of the games in the division. The closet to him is Inter Milan Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez who has 14 goals this season, two more than Osimhen’s international teammate Ademola Lookman who is third on the scorers chart.
It could all have been a different story entirely for the career of the 23 year old if the hierarchy of Spanish giants Real Madrid had listened to their then coach Zinedine Zidane, who has him on his list three years ago.
Zidane recommended him to president Fiorentino Perez while Osimhen was at Lille but the club didn’t push further in the discussion leaving Napoli with the chance to sign him for a club record fee according to El Nacional.
They reported that Madrid’s decision to pass on the chance to sign Osimhen three years ago could yet prove costly as it will take around €150 million to prize him from Napoli as things stand now.
