When Emmanuel Dennis walked through the door at Vicarage Road he came in as a player with a lot of potential but stuck in the potential room due to issues bothering on his attitude and commitment to his craft.
Fast forward to few games to the end of the current English Premier League season, Dennis has moved from one who was seen as a possible flop to one of the break out star of the season in England.
He has ten goals and six assists making it his most productive season ever in front of goal but with Watford almost certain to be relegated. Dennis will no doubt be on the move in the summer.
“If Watford are relegated, Dennis is all but certain to leave for two main reasons. First, he is seen as one of the club’s most saleable assets to offset the drop in revenue that relegation brings — it’s understood the club value him in the region of £20 million to £30 million”, Adam Leventhal of The Athletic wrote.
His departure is most likely possible as Watford has a clause that triggers salary reduction if the team fails to beat the drop and even if they manage to stay up. They might still take up the option of trading the Nigerian if a fee in the region of £20-£30 million is lodged for him.
It will be too much to resist for a player who was seen as a gamble when they decided to pay £3 million to sign him from Club Brugge. With four years left to go on his deal at the club, Watford have a good enough ground to make good money from his transfer if he does move.
According to The Athletic l, Newcastle looked at signing the forward two years ago and his name remains on recruitment lists, but with plenty of options available to Eddie Howe given the Saudi Arabia-based backing of the club, he is understood not to be a priority signing.
West Ham were highlighted by the source close to Dennis as another to be interested, but a senior individual at the London club said they wouldn’t discuss targets. The third Premier League club mentioned have considered Dennis as an option but don’t feel he would be the right fit at this point.
An unnamed team in Spain is also believed to be keen on acquiring the 24 year old with sources close to him also revealing that he will have talks with the Watford hierarchy at the end of the season on his future. He prefers to stay in England though.
