Old Trafford legend Rio Ferdinand has picked Luke Shaw as the man of the match in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

The Red Devils came from behind at Old Trafford to beat their next-door neighbours Man City 2-1 with late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

Luke Shaw started the game in the central defence as Erik ten Hag left the likes of Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez on the bench.

The England international was then drafted to his original position as the left-back in the last stages of the match when the manager brought in Maguire and Martinez to tighten the defence and preserve their lead.

“The man of the match for me was Luke Shaw. In the latter stages of the game, he was heading it away, intercepting passes, keeping calm,” the former England defender told Vibe.

“Everyone questioned him playing at centre-back but he’s basically saying: ‘I’ll play anywhere for you and give you 8/10 performances every week.’ He’s been great.”

Up next for the Red Devils is a Premier League game against Crystal Palace on Wednesday before their top-of-the-table clash with Arsenal next weekend.
