Former Barcelona striker, Gary Linekar has singled Manchester United defender Raphael Varane for praise after the Red Devils managed a narrow 1-0 win against Wolves in a Premier League tie on Monday.
Ma United defeated Wolves at Old Trafford, thanks to a 76th minute strike by Varane.
During the encounter there was a moment of controversy, as goalkeeper Andre Onana had clattered into a Wolves player Sasa Kalajdzic late in the second half.
While the consensus was that Wolves should have had a penalty, Onana was not penalised.
However, Lineker also took a jibe at Erik ten Hag’s side by praising Varane, tweeting:
“An opening day 3 points for @ManUtd. thanks to VARane.”
Manchester United’s next match is against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
