Ex Eagles Captain Mikel Tells Peseiro- Super Eagles Should Play A Better Brand Of Football, They Are Poor

Former captain of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel says he hasn’t been impressed with the Super Eagles display under Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, OGN reports.

Peseiro will be a year old in the job in May and so far can only boast of three wins in nine games. The wins all came in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers games against Sierra Leone, Soa Time and Principe and Guinea Bissau respectively. Teams that Nigeria should always beat regardless of who is in charge.

Embarrassing defeats like the loss at home to Guinea Bissau and the 0-4 thrashing in the hands of Portugal has made calls for the manager’s contract not to be extended when it expires in May.

Speaking on the performance of the team under the Portuguese, Mikel told OGN that nothing has changed since the departure of Rohr and the brand of football the team is playing now is poor and not beffiting for their standard.

” They (Super Eagles) should play better than what we are seeing at the moment. The coach has been there for a year and we still can’t see any visible change in the way the team was under the previous manager (Gernot Rohr). The team is poor and you can’t leave out blaming the coach”, Mikel exclusively told Owngoalnigeria.com.
