Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy who was recently discharged and acquitted from allegations of rape has joined French Ligue 1 side Lorient on a two year deal, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Mendy lost two and a half years of his career to the allegations, which saw him underwent two separate trials by a jury before he was found not to be guilty of the charges labelled against him by eight different ladies.

As part of his return to football he has teamed up with modest Ligue 1 side Lorient, where he will be a teammate to Nigeria international Innocent Bonke, who has been at the club for two years.

Last season 27 year old Bonke made 25 league appearances clocking 1,182 minutes despite battling with injuries and fitness issues for almost three months. He is eyeing regular game time next season after returning to full fitness.

Bonke has four caps for the senior national team of Nigeria, the last of which came in the 1-2 friendly loss to Mexico under new coach of the team Jose Peseiro on the 29th of May 2022.
