21 year old former Nigeria U17 striker Olakunle Olusegun has taken the first step towards representing Russia with the option of playing for Nigeria at senior level looking bleak, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
A member of the 2019 Nigeria U17 team, he was top scorer at the WAFU tournament with five goals powering Nigeria to lifting the regional tournament, which served as the qualifiers for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
At the AFCON, he found the back of the net once with the team qualifying for the World Cup, where he was once again on the score sheet with the team exiting the tournament at the first knock out stage.
Now playing professional football in Russia for Krasnodar, he said the war in the country denied him a chance to be called up to the senior national team of Nigeria last year.
Since then he hasn’t been considered for another chance and it is probably why he is low looking elsewhere as he confirmed in an interview that he will be getting his Russian citizenship next year.
He told @bookierating that he has already applied for a switch of nationality and he will (most likely) receive a Russian passport next year. It will be the first step towards his goal of representing the country at senior level.
