Nigeria international defender Leon Balogun has left relegated English Championship side Wigan Athletic for Scottish Premier League giants Rangers, thedabigal can exclusively reveal.

The former Mainz 05 defender extended his deal with Wigan where he was on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion to enable him complete the season which ended with Wigan dropping to League One.

His deal expired after their last game of the season and following the expiration of his deal at his parent owners Brighton and Hove Albion he became a free player.

In the coming days he will be unveiled by team coached by Steven Gerrard and that will bring to three the number of Nigerian players in the first team of the Scottish side.

Already Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey are with the first team. Bassey has already indicated his interest in playing for Nigeria as reported by this portal yesterday while Aribo has six senior caps to his name.

32 year old Balogun didn’t have the best of time in the English Premier League as he failed to stamp his presence in the first team of Brighton. Something he will be hoping will change following his move to Scotland.

The transfer will be made official before the end of this week.
