The reported transfer of Nigeria international defender Calvin Bassey from Dutch giants Ajax to English Premier League side Fulham has suffered a set back, with the player not keen on the move despite both teams agreeing a fee for his transfer, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Bassey was yesterday informed by the sporting director of Ajax Sven Mislintat that he isn’t in the plans of head coach Maurice Steijn next season. The 23 year old was told that a fee has already beem agreed for his transfer to Fulham. The fee reportedly has a resale value for the Dutch side.
Mislintat’s message was rejected by the Nigerian, who is refusing to be forced out with Ajax keen on utilizing the €21m from his expected sale to strengthen their defence. He insist he will stay and fight for his spot.
However, when he was told this morning that he has no future at the club and won’t take part in the friendly game against Anderlecht, he instructed his management team Unique Sports Group to begin negotiations on personal terms with Fulham for a multi year contract.
Fulham will however struggle to meet up with his present pay package at Ajax, while the Nigerian will be looking for an increase on what he is presently earning to agree to the move. It’s now up to the English side to show how bad they want him by matching or slightly go above his current salary.
