Watford man of the moment Emmanuel Dennis has informed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that he is not interested in representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Dennis who has been in the international wilderness since the Super Eagles back to back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone was contacted by the NFF to be a part of the pool for the AFCON but he turned it down.
With six goals to his name and five assists he was recently voted the club’s player of the month and was expected to be a pivotal to Nigeria for the AFCON with doubts surrounding ty availability of Victor Osimhen.
He has for now pick helping Watford stay in the English Premier League ahead of representing Nigeria at the prestigious African tournament which will take place in Cameroon in January next year.
It’s still unclear if his decision to turn down the invitation is due to the fractious relationship he has with embattled coach of the team Gernot Rohr and he might have a change of mind if the German is eventually fired by the NFF.
Nigeria’s preparations for the tournament has been rocked by uncertainty over the future of Rohr as coach of the team with the German not expected to lead the team to AFCON but yet to be officially sacked.
