Representatives of former Romanian star Adrian Adrian Mutu have arrived Nigeria for talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the soon to be vacant role of the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria.

Present head coach of the team Jose Peseiro won’t be handed fresh terms when his deal expires in June. He will however be in charge of the team for the final two games of the AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe respectively.

In a bid to immediately replaced him, the football house has shortlisted coaches as first reported by OGN for the role. Among the name is South African coach Pitso Mosimane and per sources Romanian football star Adrian Mutu is also in the list.

According to Wale Ajayi of NSM media, the representatives of the coach are already in Nigeria pushing for a verbal agreement ahead of taking over as coach in June, when the job will become vacant.

We also gathered that his candidacy is being pushed by aides of the minister for youths and sports Sunday Dare making him the choice of the outgoing minister.

Born January 8, 1979, 44year old Adrian Mutu is the current coach of Romanian side FC Rapid 1923, a club he joined in 2022 after signing a three year contract.

Mutu coached the Romanian under 21 team between 2020 and 2021 before taking over as coach of FC Craiova in May 2021. He was also Romanian National team chief scout and president of FC Dinamo at one time.
