Former sports minister Dare wants IMC to continue abridged league

Former Minister for Youth and Sports Sunday Dare has expressed his wish for the Interim Management Committee (IMC) to run the abridged league for two more seasons.

Dare, who averred that the success achieved in the just concluded season will shoot the Nigeria Premier League to the top of the continent, commended IMC’s dedication, fearlessness, and transparency in the conduct of the league.

“I’m an advocate of the abridged league because that is the short therapy for a comatose league like ours,” he told thedabigal in Lagos.

According to him: “We have tried the abridged league for the first time, and we have seen that the short therapy is working. My advocacy is that they (IMC) should continue for another two seasons; by then, everything would have been normalised. Who knows, with the enforcement of regulations, financial licencing will become stricter; in the end, we might even have lesser teams in the league if all this is applied consistently.”

Enyimba won the 2022–23 Nigeria Premier League title with N100 million in prize money.
