One of the January transfer deadline day move that happened was the transfer of 20 year old Nigerian forward Gift Orban, he moved from Norwegian second division side Stabaek to Belgium side Gent. A move first reported by OGN.
His move is seen as a high risk signing owing to the fact that he has spent less than a year in Norway since his move from Nigeria. The fee involved has also caught the attention of many as it is in the region of €3m.
Coming from the Norwegian second division as well has also raised eyebrows despite the fact that he scored 19 goals in 24 games. The discussion around his signing has drawn a reaction from the head scout of the team Samuel Cardenas.
“The Norwegian second division is of course not a top series, but we saw in him the qualities of a very special footballer. You never know how quickly someone gets used to a new level, but we definitely see a bright future for Gift”, he said .
He also revealed that they followed him for five months before making a decision on signing him. “Perhaps we were the first to approach him. He is very versatile and can play behind a striker as well as play football in the point. Gift is extremely explosive and a real killer in the box, being perfectly bipedal.”
