He Should Have Played For Nigeria – Cole Reacts To Tammy Abraham Slim Chance Of Making England Squad For Euros

Former Chelsea striker Carlton Cole has showed some sympathy with Tammy Abraham who is in a race against time to make the English team for this summer European Championship.

Abraham has found games hard to come by at Chelsea under new coach Thomas Tuchel and that has put his chance of making the English team in jeopardy.

With six senior caps to his name, the 23 year old famously snubbed Nigeria in 2017 despite a statement by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick saying he has committed his future to Nigeria.

Cole who also turned down the chance to play for Nigeria in favour of England in 2004 but six years later accepted an invitation to play for Nigeria in a World Cup qualifiers against South Africa only to be told by FIFA that he is ineligible.

He was declared ineligible because he has played for England at senior level back then, same as Tammy who according to Cole should have considered Nigeria.

“ I think it’s a case of not getting games under a new manager who already has faith In others and the team is doing well. Looking back at his international career maybe he should have played for Nigeria when he had the chance”, Cole said while speaking on the slim chances of the striker making the English team for the Euros.
