
Spanish LaLiga side have announced that Nigeria international striker Sadiq Umar won’t be available again for the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during their 1-2 loss to Getafe yesterday.
Sadiq was subbed off after getting injured during the course of the game, initial report suggested that he suffered from ankle sprain which will see him return back to action in around six weeks time.
However after a comprehensive test by his team, it has been announced that he will undergo surgery and his recovery time will take the rest of the ongoing season. Meaning he won’t be available for selection till next season.
He was signed as a replacement for the departed Alexander Isak during the summer transfer window for a fee of around €30 million from Almeria. He hit the ground running by scoring in his first game for the team.
Prior to joining them, he scored in two of his three games for Almeria putting to bed fears that he won’t be able to match his feat in the Spanish second division in the top league. He was Almeria’s top scorer for two consecutive seasons.
