I am a fake soldier — Man who assaulted Police Woman confesses

The Lagos State Police has arrested a passenger who went viral last Sunday on social media, after he was seen on camera assaulting a Police Woman Martina Onyeacho, who was controlling traffic at Shibiri bus stop, Ilemba Hausa, Lagos.

The passenger identified as  Yemi Aiyeni, 32 year old, was apprehended by the police following the assault on the Police woman as internet users called for his arrest after the video went viral.

According to PUNCH, The Nigerian police spokesperson , SP Bala Elkana, said, that the Ilemba Hausa Police Station received a distress call that a female police officer, Inspector Martina Onyeacho, on traffic control at Shibiri bus stop is in distress. A patrol team was promptly deployed to the scene to rescue her.

The 32 year old , Yemi Ayeni, was arrested while the policewoman was quickly taken to a hospital for treatment. Onyeacho sustained various degrees of injuries from beating she received from the suspect.

Lagos state police command arrest dismissed soldier caught on camera beating a female officer The police in Lagos have arrested a 32 year old dismissed soldier, Yemi Ayeni, who was filmed beating up a female police officer in the Shibiri area of the state last weekend. The video showing him beating the female officer, went viral today, prompting the state police command to immediately launch an investigation. Ayeni who is known to terrorise residents of the area under the guise he is a military officer, was arrested. When interrogated, he said he was dismissed from service. He said he was disqualified at entry level into the military. “I am a dismissed soldier. I was dismissed during training. I had spent four months in the training before I was dismissed ( disqualified ). This was because anytime someone shouted at me, I would feel somehow. They said I had a medical problem and told me to leave. I don’t know what came over me on Sunday. I was inside a commercial bus with the driver and conductor, when the policewoman hit the vehicle and that was all. “I regret my action. I appeal to the Federal Government and the Police to free me. They should temper justice with mercy. I will never try this again. My wife walked out of the marriage six months ago, abandoning our baby “he said Spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, said Ayeni would be charged to court for assault.

According to eyewitness, Yemi who presented himself as a soldier in a commercial bus that obstructed traffic flow on the busy road, was angered by the order issued by the traffic policewoman to the driver to move his vehicle away from the main road to the pave way for free flow of traffic.

Yemi confessed that he had been posing as a soldier since he was dismissed from the Nigerian Army Depot Zaria in 2002 on mental health grounds after spending four months in training. Ayeni also stated that he regrets his actions as he appeals to the Federal government and the Police.
