Former Nigeria U20 midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew says he is prime for an invitation to the senior national team of Nigeria following his impressive performances for FC Zurich since he joined the team in February, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Matthew has played 25 games for the Swiss side since his move from Lillestrom with 12 of his games at the club coming this season, where they are top of the league after 11 round of games.
The 26 year old who was a part of the 2015 Nigeria U20 team has cemented a spot at the base of the midfield of the team. Despite playing so deep he has two assists and a goal to his name so far.
Speaking to OwnGoalNigeria.com, Matthew said he feels he can play a role in the team, if given a call up by head coach of the team Jose Peseiro ahead of the start of the World Cup qualifiers and also next year Africa Cup of Nations.
” I really think I can do a job for the team in the middle of the pitch. That’s where I am very comfortable and I see myself as a bit different from the options in the team at the moment. Although they have their own unique qualities” he said.
“My target is to continue with my form at the club and see what happens. It’s been so far, so good with my team sitting on top of the league but it isn’t over yet until it’s all over”, the former El Kanemi, Kano Pillars teen prospect rounded up saying.
