Popular American R&B singer, Ne-Yo has revealed that he wishes he was the one who came up with hit song, “Essence” by top Nigerian music star, Wizkid which also features singing sensation, Tems.

In a recent interview with American entertainment magazine, NME, Ne-Yo spoke about the songs he liked and when he was asked about a song he wish he had written, he responded with Wizkid’s “Essence“.

According to him, the song is one of those records that just makes sense and he wishes that he had thought of it first. He also revealed that he had once met the Grammy-Award winning singer, although he wasn’t sure Big Wiz would remember their meeting.

Ne-Yo revealed he was proud of the moves Big Wiz has been making and stated that he was one of the new generation artistes he respects.

Speaking on Essence, he said,

“It’s one of those records that just makes sense. They could run it back 17 times and you ain’t gonna say nothing, you’re just gonna let it happen. I wish that I’d have thought of it first.

I met him once, real quick – he wouldn’t remember. But I’m super proud of that dude for making the moves that he’s making. He’s one of the new generation that I can genuinely say I respect.”
