The senior national team of Nigeria narrowly hang on to their fifth position in Africa in the latest ranking released by World soccer governing body FIFA.
Nigeria were ranked 36th in the world after the last round of international games where they were surprisingly beaten by Central Africa Republic (CAR) before avenging the defeat three days later in Cameroon.
That notwithstanding they were still faced with the threat of dropping out of Africa’s top five but that didn’t happen as they were able to starved off Egypt who are behind them with the difference less than one.
Africa’s top five is crucial to the final draws for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers as they will be the seeded teams. Presently Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Nigeria are the top five in Africa.
