The future of Nigeria international forward Terem Moffi at Ligue 1 side Lorient has been among the most talked about in French football the past five days.
Reports came out days ago that he is the subject of interest from three teams in the English Premier League namely Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton, he was also reported to be on the radar of fellow Ligue 1 side Lyon.
Recent reports suggest it’s Southampton who have struggled for goals that are pushing to sign the 23 year old who has ten goals in 15 League games this season. Two more than his tally of 8 from 34 games last season.
Southampton have scored just 14 goals in 16 Premier League games and sit bottom of the table in 20th place. Moffi is currently the joint third top-scorer in Ligue 1, with 10 goals in 15 games. Only Paris Saint-Germain duo Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have scored more than Moffi this term.
Southampton’s board are aware of the potential perils buying in January brings and are reluctant to make hastened or desperate transfer-related decisions. The club, however, have been tracking the 23-year-old, who has nine caps for Nigeria, since his time in Lithuania, playing for FK Kauno Zalgiris and FK Riteriai between 2017-20. In that time, they would have built in-depth knowledge of Moffi.
They have now been told to pay the sum of £25m for the forward with £20m coming by way of fixed payments and a further £5m in add ons. A source close to the player told OwngoalNigeria.com.
