Luis Suarez gets booked for his glimpse at VAR monitor

Luis Suarez tried a sneaky glimpse at the VAR monitor during Atletico Madrid’s Champions League fixture at Lokomotiv Moscow – and was booked for his troubles.
The striker joined Atletico from Barcelona in the summer, bagging four goals in his first five La Liga games.

But, not for the first time in his career, he sparked controversy by peaking at the VAR monitor as the match official reviewed a contentious penalty decision against Madrid in the Group A clash in Russia.

Former Liverpool man Suarez was immediately shown a yellow card by the referee, who also awarded the spot-kick after deciding Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera had handled the ball.

Lokomotiv’s Anton Miranchuk converted the penalty, cancelling out Jose Gimenez’s opener.

Suarez then missed a glorious chance to put his side back in the lead but shot wide, before seeing a second-half effort ruled out for offside as Atletico had to settle for a point.

The draw leaves Atletico in second spot with four points, two ahead of Lokomotiv.
