Lust or Love Bug? – Adebowale Remilekun

Fuck!!! Of all days for this thing to come, it choose the day i am wearing white. I could cry right now but I would be the cynosure of all eyes and before you know it, I could end up on one of these sleazy blogs.

“Is anything the problem vivian?”

How do you tell your elder brother’s friend that you just got stained,
“ehn abi which kind wahala be this on a Wednesday morning?”.
The thing is that i used to have a huge crush on him growing and he always had a soft spot for me because he didn’t have a sister. He would spoil me silly with gifts and look out for me. Infact my school mate used to think he is my brother, only my close friends knew otherwise.

I was about to give him a reply when the waiter came to drop a bottle of wine i know I didn’t order for right in my front.

“Complimentary of the gentleman on the next table” The waiter told me explained.

I turned to look at the gentleman the waiter was talking about and oh my! “What a dude”, accompanied with a dazzling smile that practically lit up his face and to think it’s all in my direction. On a normal day, i would have been flattered but today is not one. I smiled back and turned back to the waiter, signaled for him to lean closer towards me. “Sorry, how much is their bill” i asked the waiter?

“N60,000 ma” he replied

“Do you have pos?”

“Yes ma, let me go get it”

“Vivian, do you know those guys especially the one that sent the bottle of wine?” Bro Shola asked

“No, I don’t ”

Now back to my stained dress dilemma, what do i do about it. Shola noticed the distress on my faced and said
“You were about to tell me what’s bothering you when the waiter interrupted”,
So tell me, “What’s the problem and how can i assist. You are too pretty to have wrinkles on your face.”.
In my head, i rolled my eyes at him. “Kilo fe fa kati kati ni 11am laro kutu kutu Wednesday? Which one is too pretty to have wrinkles on my face”.

Anyways, the only solution to my problem at the moment is his long jacket which will cover my stain. And to think i had insulted him in my head when he first appeared for wearing a long jacket even though it went so well with his outfit. This must be karma paying me back for my evil thoughts against him.

” Erm sir, the thing is erm…”

“Why am i stammering like this now? Do you like maybe want to write it down because it’s seems you are uncomfortable telling me.”

“Wo, God bless your soul omo nla” I thought to myself again ,So i wrote that i was stained, and that i need his jacket to cover up just till i get to my car. He smiled at me
“so this is what you can’t tell me”
“It’s okay, you can take the jacket with you. It will most definitely look good on you”.
“Thank you very much sir, i am indebted to you”.
“Don’t call me sir! You are making me feel like one old man, even though i am not your age mate but you are like a sister to me”.
I didn’t know what else to say to him and the waiter choose that moment to show up with the pos machine. I brought out my card to pay for my gentleman, thankfully Shola has taken care of the bills we incurred on our table. When you see us leaving, walk up to him and give him my card and the receipt of what i paid for. Also tell him i say thank you.
“I am ready whenever you are”,i turned to Shola. He slipped off his coat and passed it to me. I had to make sure no one was staring before i stood up to wear the coat. We both went out of the restaurant with me walking behind and just at the door, i turned back to see an incredulous look on my admirer’s face.
I smiled and walked out of the restaurant like a boss who had just won a big contract.

Coby could not believe what just happened.
“Guys, she just paid our bills”, i told my friends.
“Hope you got her number sha because she is definitely a keeper from the look of things”. Trust Femi to always say things as he sees them.
I thought to myself, “Oh yeah! She dropped her complimentary card”.
I noticed the red stain on her white dress just as she stood up to wear her dress, and i also noticed her curvy ass. Damn! She is beautiful, my friends have already given their blessings. I am definitely going in for the kill. I picked up my phone and dialed Sharon, my younger sister who owns a boutique on Admiralty way.
“Sharon, remember that blue dress i saw on your mannequin the other day, do you still have it in stock?”
“Of course i do”.
“Perfect! I will be needing the dress in size 12. Preferably colour red ,some medium sized lacy panties, which i am leaving to you to pick out. Also, that bottle of oud perfume you usual soak yourself in and sanitary towel”.
“ Did you just say sanitary towel? Coby ,what’s going on”,Sharon asked.

Trust my amebo sister to always want to know everything. I stood up from my seat and walked outside, then proceeded to give her the gist of what just happened.
“You mean she took care of your bills without even collecting your number?”
“No ooo, lol she dropped her card with the waiter”.
“Sharp girl, i like her already. See ehn, don’t bother to pay for the oud perfume, panties and sanitary towel, consider that as a welcome gift to her. You just found a girlfriend on your birthday”.
“What are you saying Sharon”,i laughed out loud.
“Girlfriend? I just met her now. What if she doesn’t like me?” What if she is married or something or engaged?”
I listed out to my crazy sister, who has been trying to hook me with every girl she comes across. “Was she wearing a ring” Sharlie asked?

“How would i know?” i replied her.

“Ode, didn’t you use style to check her fingers while she was eating or drinking or something”.
“Babe calm down, when we meet eventually i will ask her”.
“ Oya now, how do you want to get all these across to her?”
“ I will text you the address on her complimentary card. It says here that her name is Vivian Sholaja. I like her name and i like the woman herself already”.
“Oshey, my brother the chaser of skirts”.
“ I just hope you don’t do this one strong thing. Your shinor is the reason you are still single at 35” .
By the way, “happy birthday once again”, she said before I ended the call while laughing.
“Women throw themselves at me and since I haven’t found the one, why can’t I help myself to the free goodies”.
“ I have a good feeling about Viv and I do hope for my poor heart sake, things work out well”.
I was about to go in when my friends trooped out, “Birthday boy, I hail oo!!! “So for evening, where the turn up go be?” “Kunbi the alcholic amongst us asked

“Ah, Kunbi o ni mu ku mu ni e, after the one you just drowned inside ..”Kelvin replied him.

Everyone laughed and as if they planned it, they all gave me a group hug, “Happy birthday man, we pray this year earmarks the beginning of new things including love”.
“It’s time to move on after Ezinne and we have a good feeling about this Vivian chick”.
“ When do we get to meet her?”Femi asked,
“Meet who?
“You guys should chill now, let me and this babe even sit down and have a conversation”
“ What if she does not have sense and she is all beauty and no brains?”, I asked them.

“Na legit thing you talk so, oya take your time and get to know her but help us tell am thank you whenever you see her”, Folabi, the sensible one of our lot said.

“I am running late for my meeting, Kelvin make i drop you for your office as you no carry your car”.Trust Folabi to always watch out for his gees.
After goodbyes and car doors slamming, the car park was finally deserted with me just standing. I walked to my car and got in, then drove off to my office in the heart of Ikoyi.

To be continue…
