Maduka Okoye Stars To Help Sparta Rotterdam Beat Relegation, Heads To Watford

Nigeria international goalkepper Maduka Okoye signed off in style as his team Sparta Rotterdam picked up a vital 3-1 win against Heracles to beat the drop to the Dutch Eredivisie.

The game was tagged as a relegation six pointer as the loser of the game will drop to the relegation play offs. Okoye was on from start from finish and was only denied a clean sheet by a late goal from Sinan Bakış seven minutes from full time.

It was his last game in the colours of the team he joined in 2020 on a free transfer from German side Fortuna Dusseldorf. He will join English Championship side Watford in a deal that makes him Africa’s second most expensive goalkepper.

He is only behind Chelsea’s Eduoard Mendy in terms of most valuable African goalkepper. This season he kept seven clean sheets in 30 games.  Three short of his last season tally of ten clean sheets in 28 games.
