Ryan Mason, said that Sunday’s Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City serves as a blueprint for his tactical plans while in charge.
Mason, who has enjoyed a whirlwind week at Spurs, ended the period with a saddening defeat at Wembley. Aymeric Laporte’s second-half header proved enough for Pep Guardiola’s men, who dominated on Sunday. Indeed, Tottenham had good spells throughout the game but only two attempts on goal.
Nevertheless, the experience is a feather in the cap of Mason, a budding young coach at the age of 29.
He is unlikely to stay next season, filling in following Jose Mourinho’s sacking on Monday.

However, he said after the 1-0 defeat to City that he has given an indication as to how he plans to play at Spurs.
“It was a difficult match,” he told his post-match press conference (via Football London).
“I thought in the first half we rode our luck on a couple of occasions. There were times where it was controlled.
“In the second half we had a good moment and some set plays and I felt while we didn’t create much in the second half, neither did they. It’s difficult to concede from a set piece though.
“We didn’t have long to work on it but that’s the way I want to go forward during my time here. Man City have had 5 or 6 years with the same coach so they’ve much more time to get so comfortable with the way they play.”

Laporte proved a talking point for other reasons than his winning goal.
He picked up a yellow card in the first half, but he could well have seen red for another challenge.
